News just in: Yahoo and Microsoft’s Bing see their internet search market share rise…
News from WSJ:
Yahoo Inc. (YHOO) and Microsoft Corp. (MSFT) notched small increases in their share of the U.S. online-search market in March, while Google Inc. (GOOG) posted a slight decline, according to market research firm comScore Inc. (SCOR).
Americans used search giant Google for 65.1% of their 15.4 billion core searches last month, down from 65.5% in February. Microsoft’s share was 11.7%, compared with 11.5% in the prior month.
Yahoo rose 0.1 percentage point to 16.9%. Ask Network, owned by IAC/Interactive Corp. (IACI) captured 3.8%, followed by AOL Inc. (AOL) at 2.5%.
Microsoft search-engine Bing, which launched in the summer, saw large growth in comScore’s analysis of Web sites where search activity is observed. Bing’s queries grew 7% to 1.6 billion searches. Microsoft has made a deep-pocketed push for market share, as it makes constant feature upgrades and strikes deals with hotter companies like Twitter and Facebook.
