Tamil Nadu Tourism Development Corporation (TTDC) conducts the Annual Fair for a period of 90 days from January to March. The Fair division has proved to be a major money spinner for TTDC with a gross profit ratio of 45%. The current event is the 37th India Tourist and Industrial Fair with biodiversity as a theme will begin at Island Grounds here on December 1 and around 20 lakh people are expected to visit the fair which is three lakh more when compared with that of last year, said Tourism Minister Suresh Rajan. Talking to reporters, he said though the event in the past began only in December- end, the Tourism Department had decided to advance it by a month.

As speculations continue around the 37th India Trade Fair that it would be delayed by another 10 days due to non-completion of works. The works were stalled in the last one week due to rains. As of now, 65 per cent arrangements have been completed. The minister pointed out that the works would be completed as soon as possible, the minister said the fair would be inaugurated in the first week of December, after obtaining dates from Chief Minister Mr. M Karunanidhi. A total of 43 pavilions displaying the achievements and functioning of various Central and State government departments would be part of the fair.

Talking about the theme of the fair, he said the setting would be made in such a way that the visitors would get the feeling as if they were in Mudumalai Sanctuary. A total of 44 government departments, including two Central government departments will take part in the fair.

The Minister said Tamil Nadu had become the number one destination when it came to international tourism in the country. It comes third as far as domestic tourism is concerned, he said.

Managing Director of the Tamil Nadu Tourism Development Corporation Mr. A.C. Mohandas said his department had produced a 30-second promotional film in various languages for the promotion of the grand event.

Connect Tenth Edition will take place at Chennai Trade Center, Nandambakkam, Chennai on 8^th and 9^th September 2010.
