Mumbai, earlier known as Bombay, is a part of the state of Maharashtra and also is its capital. Mumbai is made from a cluster of Seven Islands and gets its name from Mumbadevi, the goddess of the koli fisher folk, oldest inhabitants of Mumbai. Mumbai is one of the cities in this world who can call themselves cities that never sleep. Fifteen million people live in Mumbai – industrialists, film-stars, artists, workers, teachers and clerks – all living cheek-by-jowl in soaring skyscrapers and sprawling slums. They come from diverse ethnic backgrounds and speak over a dozen tongues, adding color, flavor and texture to the Great Mumbai Melting Pot.
