Kerala Sold out….

Looks like Kerala is sold out for this holiday season…

Thiruvananthapuram: Tourists hoping to usher in the New Year amid Kerala’s laidback charms would do well to have a plan B ready – if they haven’t booked already. Most hotels, resorts and even houseboats are sold out for Christmas, and only divine intervention can get you a place in ‘god’s own country’.

As a result of the holiday rush, tariffs have touched stratospheric levels. Plush resorts in the backwater havens of Alappuzha and Kumarakom are charging upwards of 75,000 a night for the New Year eve.

Good news for not only the school children’s of Kerala, but any one who takes stake on the development of Kerala state. The reason is that Kerala has yet again emerged as the best performing Education State in India. The reason is that Kerala state stands first with 90.92% Literacy Rate of which 94.20% Male Literacy Rate and 87.86% Female Literacy Rate.

Kerala also had lowest difference in student-wise performance, and performance of urban and rural schools also showed only negligible difference.

The importance and antiquity of education in Kerala is underscored by the state’s ranking as among the most literate in the country.

Kerala’s educational system has been developed by institutions owned or aided by the government. No fees (or a nominal fees) are required in schools run by or aided by government. Fees concerning the higher and technical education are very low; the ratio of recovery of government’s revenue expenditure was 2.6% in 2006-2007.

Hope you will take the pride of posting more facts, figures and info relating to this blog title and also in general about the education in India.

Significance of Onam

Onam is by far the biggest festival celebrated in Kerala. It marks the homecoming of their legendary King Mahabali and lasts for about ten days. It usually falls during the first month of the Malayalam calendar (August-September). This festival is linked to many elements of Kerala’s culture – like the intricate flower carpets (Pookolam), elaborate lunch (Onasadhya), snake boat races and traditional dances.

According to legend, King Mahabali’s rule was a golden period for Kerala. All the citizens were happy and prosperous. He was so highly respected that he was considered almost equivalent to the King of Gods, Indra. In order to restore the balance and establish only one God-king, Lord Mahavishnu assumes the form of a dwarf (Vaamana) and tricks the King into the Underworld. But every year, on Onam day, the king revisits his people and celebrates the harvest with them.

It is to welcome the King and celebrate his homecoming that Onam is celebrated with grandeur and feasting all over Kerala.

The employees of Callezee Ernakulam welcome the great king in their own special way. Click here to know how!

Cochin – Gateway to Kerala

Cochin is a vibrant city situated on the south-west coast of the Indian peninsula in the breathtakingly scenic and prosperous state of Kerala, hailed as ‘God’s Own Country‘. This lovely seaside city is flanked by the Western Ghats on the east and the Arabian Sea on the west.

Its proximity to the equator, the sea and the mountains provide a rich experience of a moderate equatorial climate.  Its strategic importance over the centuries is underlined by the sobriquet Queen of the Arabian Sea. Informally, Cochin is also referred to as the Gateway to Kerala.

The Chinese fishing nets  in the City of (Cochin) are fixed land installations for an unusual form of fishing. The Chinese fishing nets (Cheenavala) are distinctly unique to Cochin. It is believed that traders from the court of the Chinese ruler Kublai Khan introduced these nets here. Oddly, these nets are found only in Kochi, outside China! Many fishermen earn their livelihood by fishing using these massive nets. A whole stretch of the coast along Fort Kochi and Vypeen are dotted with these nets.
