In an event held yesterday (Organized by Confederation of Indian Industries, CII, at Image Auditorium, Chennai) CII awarded nine prominent Chennai based Businessmen with Tamil Nadu Emerging Entrepreneurs Award.
The Tamil Nadu chapter of the Confederation of Indian Industry, in association with Business Line, today paid a tribute to the emerging entrepreneurs of the State by selecting nine of them for special awards.
These awards were given by the Tamil Nadu Deputy Chief Minister, Mr M. K. Stalin.

Rang De is a web-based social initiative that supports rural micro-entrepreneurs from low income households with cost-effective loans to either set up or run a business. Through its online lending platform called www.rangde.org, the organization enables individuals to lend small sums of money to micro-entrepreneurs from low income households.
Special Invitee – Ms. Waheeda Rehman has graciously agreed to attend the event. Ever since she learnt about Rang De in December last year she has been an active supporter.
Swarathma is a popular Bangalore based music group (www.swarathma.com). They sing songs born of pain and pleasure, joys and sorrows, rain and shine, of hope that lifts hearts out of despair, of life as we know it today. The 6 member band has performed in cities across India and abroad. With a great combination of folk instruments and lyrics that can touch the listener’s soul, the band has very graciously agreed to support Rang De.

Music is known to get people together and the Rang De Concert aims to do just that and reach out to people – to spread the word about microcredit and Rang De. The concert will be a fundraiser cum an awareness event. We are looking for sponsors who will join hands with us to achieve this mission.
Venue Probably for the first time the event will be held amidst an organic farm and an eco-friendly restaurant in the heart of OMR, bordering the backwaters of the Muthukadu Lake near Thoraipakkam. We hope that this venue will help us in significantly reducing the carbon footprint of the event.

Toyota Motors held a 2 day event in namma Chennai recently wherein they showcased their wide range of cars- the main attractions at the show were the soon to be launched Etios Sedan and Etios Hatchback. Other cars on display were Prius Hybrid, Camry, Corolla altis, Land Cruiser, LC Prado and Fortuner.
Etios Sedan will house a 1.4 litre petrol engine, has a very impressive dashboard (click on the pictures to enlarge and take a closer look). However, be warned that this is a concept version. Commercial variant may look different.
Etios Hatchback will house a 1.2 litre petrol engine. Nothing exciting about these 2 cars, which will be launched first in India ahead of the world. (Expected to hit showrooms early 2011, prices are not yet decied) The wheels and interiors were cool, but the representative there was very clear that this is only a concept model and the mass produced variants may not be 100% same. Just wondering why are they fooling us by setting wrong expectations.
Next attraction was the new Prius Hydrid, the eco friendly green car. Prius has cool interiors and exteriors, but price tag will deter people. At a cost of Rs 30 lakhs, Toyota Prius Hybrid is nothing but unaffordable. (Civic Hybrid was priced at 22 lakhs, thanks to 100% custom duty, later when Honda offered discounts to the tune of 70%, Civic Hydrid got sold out in no time)
