Kerala An Educational Hub – Emerging State in India

Good news for not only the school children’s of Kerala, but any one who takes stake on the development of Kerala state. The reason is that Kerala has yet again emerged as the best performing Education State in India. The reason is that Kerala state stands first with 90.92% Literacy Rate of which 94.20% Male Literacy Rate and 87.86% Female Literacy Rate.

Kerala also had lowest difference in student-wise performance, and performance of urban and rural schools also showed only negligible difference.

The importance and antiquity of education in Kerala is underscored by the state’s ranking as among the most literate in the country.

Kerala’s educational system has been developed by institutions owned or aided by the government. No fees (or a nominal fees) are required in schools run by or aided by government. Fees concerning the higher and technical education are very low; the ratio of recovery of government’s revenue expenditure was 2.6% in 2006-2007.

Hope you will take the pride of posting more facts, figures and info relating to this blog title and also in general about the education in India.

India’s UNSC seat – Chennaiites Viewpoint

The people in Chennai acclaimed the US President Barack Obama for endorsing India’s long time claim for a permanent seat in UN security council.

US President Barack Obama’s announcement of support for India’s permanent membership in the UN Security Council (UNSC) is seen by large sections of the US media as an attempt to counter China.

The influential New York Times said that by endorsing India for a permanent seat Obama had “signalled the United States’ intention to create a deeper partnership of the world’s two largest democracies that would expand commercial ties and check the influence of an increasingly assertive China”.

His statement on bringing to book 26/11 perpetrators should put to rest the cribbing that many Indian had about his view on Pakistan.

Media’s Viewpoint

  • ‘Reforming UNSC complicated after US backs India’
  • Is Obama backing India’s UNSC bid merely symbolic?
  • ‘Pak may seek China’s help to stop India from becoming a permanent UNSC member’
  • ‘India should not expect UNSC membership soon’
  • Obama backs UNSC seat for India to counter China?
  • China says understands India’s UNSC desire
  • ‘Prez Obama made a dramatic gesture for India’
  • Obama kept support for India’s UNSC bid secret
  • Obama backs UNSC seat for India to take on China?
  • Pak group opposes US endorsement of India on UNSC

Ford dealers also joined the celebrations and with the tour’s culmination, partnered to voluntarily generate Rs. 20 lakhs for the creatively designed Figo by popular television host and artist Harun Robert (a.k.a. Rob). The money generated will be utilized to improve and provide infrastructure improvements into schools in Kizhkaranai and Chitamanur villages as part of its on-going community development projects in and around the Ford plant in Maraimalai Nagar, near Chennai.

The celebrations at Ford were further amplified with Figo crossing the 50,000 mark, registering a sale of 52,644 units since its launch in India.

In October, Ford recorded its second highest domestic sales of 9,026 units, a 161% year-on-year increase compared to the same month in 2009.

”The Discover Smart Drive has helped us connect and thank consumers across India. The Figo has achieved outstanding results.  Figo is the second fastest car model in India to have crossed the 50,000 sales milestone and that is a  reflection of the confidence our customers have in us and we will boost the morale further as we move forward” said Michael Boneham, president and managing director, Ford India.

“The response that we have got from this campaign has taken Figo’s popularity to a different level. We thank our online supporters also in this endeavour. Figo has been the top-selling vehicle in five out of seven months, since its launch and we wish to sustain this phenomenon.” Wark concluded.

Karnataka Formation Day wishes

Callezee Bangalore and Mangalore teams wish all Kannadigas on the occasion of Karnataka Formation Day, celebrated every year on November 1st.

On this day in 1956, Mysore state, comprising most of the area of the erstwhile princely state of Mysore, was merged with the Kannada speaking areas of the Bombay and Madras presidencies, as also of the principality of Hyderabad, to create a unified Kannada-speaking subnational entity. The newly unified state initially retained the name “Mysore”, which was that of the erstwhile princely state which formed the core of the new entity. [more from Wikipedia]

Over 159 notable personalities have been chosen for Annual Kannada Rajyotsava awards this year. More details here
